When the world meditates,
the world changes.

All around the world this December, people are gathering to meditate, learn, and lead with kindness. That’s UN World Meditation Day 2025: a month-long wave of mindfulness events celebrating compassion, leadership, and peace. Celebrate all December with local events in schools, parks, and online.

Serene Meditation Pose

Meditation has deep roots within the UN itself: in 1952, Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld opened the Meditation Room at UN Headquarters in New York, describing it as a space for “silence in the outward sense and stillness in the inner sense.” This vision remains vital today.

World Meditation Day is both symbolic and practical. It recognizes meditation as a way to cultivate peace, unity, and compassion in times of global challenges—from conflict and inequality to climate crises and rapid technological change. At the same time, it aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (especially Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being), emphasizing mental health, resilience, and inclusive societies.

By fostering inner peace through meditation, individuals and communities contribute to building a more sustainable, just, and harmonious world for present and future generations.
